Explore works with people who have challenging behaviours that impact on their own lives and others as well. Our behaviour support services are based on the Positive Behaviour Support model, which aims to improve a person’s quality of life and the quality of life of those around them.
Meet *Josh and *Michelle, two remarkable individuals whose lives have been positively transformed by Behaviour Support Services.
We worked closely with their families, with compassionate and evidence-based approach. We supported Josh in managing his emotions and challenging behaviours, while Michelle learned to overcome communication difficulties and build healthy coping strategies.
We believe all challenging behaviour is a form of communication. So we work in partnership with you, your family/whānau and support networks to understand the reason for the behaviour. We will develop goals that are important to you and use these goals to form a plan and work with you to implement these ideas and strategies.
* Names have been changed.
Josh, a 5 year old autistic boy
Michelle, mid 30’s with an intellectual disability
At Explore we know how important it is to provide support to children and their whānau as early in life as possible. Through this pathway, we support parents/caregivers to further develop their awareness and skills so that they can become more confident and capable as parents.
We provide various forms of behaviour support to suit the individual needs of your family/ whānau. Our Behaviour Specialists have access to ‘Stepping Stones Triple P’ resources; an evidence-based programme that equips parents of children with disabilities with the skills and confidence to be self-sufficient and to be able to manage family issues without ongoing support.
Our Behaviour Support pathway focuses on collaboration with parents and caregivers to understand the meaning of behaviour, manage risk and safety, develop positive behaviour strategies and implement these with coaching and support.
